Key elements of a fall protection system
The diagram is a helpful tool for identifying the appropriate fall protection equipment based on the nature of the work. Depending on the work environment and the activities of the user, there may be several suitable solutions. To find the best solution, various factors must be considered, including ensuring that the products are compatible with each other and that their reliability and functionality are not compromised.
In general, a fall protection system consists of three key components:
- Anchor point – Must be able to withstand the maximum dynamic force that the user, along with any tools and equipment they may be carrying, could generate in the event of a fall.
- Safety line or fall arrester – Depending on the nature of the work, this could include a fall-arrest rope, automatic block, or fall-preventing rope.
- Safety harness – In fall arrest systems, the EN 361-compliant full-body harness is the only type of harness that should be used. In positioning systems, the EN 358-compliant work positioning belt can also be used.
To connect the system components, EN 362-compliant connectors should be used. Before starting work, a rescue plan should be established, and it should be ensured that rescue equipment is available and rescue capabilities are guaranteed.
Sometimes, unsuitable fall protection equipment can cause more harm than good, for example, if the wrong length of safety line or an inappropriate anchor point is selected. Contact us, and we will help you find the right set of equipment for your work!
